RESULTS
Commitment | Number |
| |
|---|---|---|---|
E1 | Climate Change | 280 electric buses | Approximately 280 electric buses are already in service, contributing to cleaner and zero-emission mobility across 23 urban lines. |
E2 | Pollution | 440 trees + 350 m² of green walls | From 2022 to 2024, 440 trees were planted and a 350 m² green wall was built, generating an estimated annual saving of 30 tonnes of CO₂ and improving air quality (PM10 and NO₂ absorption). |
| 70% washing systems with water recirculation | As of 31 December 2024, 12 out of 17 washing facilities are equipped with water-recirculation systems, enabling water recovery and treatment while reducing withdrawals and discharges. | ||
E5 | Resource Use and Circular Economy
| 80%+ digital tickets | In 2024 more than 80% of tickets were purchased in digital format, significantly reducing paper consumption and emissions. |
TARGETS
| Commitment | Number | ||
|---|---|---|---|
E1 | Climate Change | 600 electric buses by 2026 (≈50% of the fleet) | By 2026 we aim to bring the share of electric buses in service to nearly 50% of the entire fleet. |
E2 | Pollution
| 100% washing systems with water-recirculation by 2030 | We plan to complete the programme to equip all depots with water-recirculating washing systems by 2030. |
| –97% NOx reduction (from 900 t to 26.77 t) | Through fleet renewal and the transition to electric mobility, we will dramatically reduce NOx emissions. | ||
| New urban forestation projects in partnership with the Municipality of Milan | We continue to carry out urban forestation and regeneration initiatives to enhance the city’s green areas. | ||
E5 | Resource Use and Circular Economy | 85% waste recovered by 2030 | We are working to increase the percentage of waste sent for recovery, targeting 85% by 2030. |
ACTIONS
The Full Electric Plan
By the end of 2024, ATM will have placed approximately 280 electric buses in service on 23 urban lines, alongside approximately 290 hybrid buses already in operation.
The Full Electric Plan is one of the cornerstone projects of this strategy and aims to progressively replace diesel-powered vehicles with zero-emission electric vehicles. By the end of 2024, ATM will have placed approximately 280 electric buses in service on 23 urban lines, alongside approximately 290 hybrid buses already in operation. This decarbonisation path has already avoided the emission of around 5,000 tonnes of CO2 in the three-year period 2022-2024. The stated goal is to have 50 per cent of Milan's public transport bus fleet fully electric by 2026, thus contributing significantly to the reduction of climate-changing emissions generated by the transport service.
The digitisation of travel tickets
During 2024, more than 80% of tickets were purchased in digital format, marking a major step forward in the dematerialisation of physical media.
The digitisation of travel tickets results in a positive environmental impact through the reduction of materials used and related emissions. During 2024, more than 80% of tickets were purchased in digital format, marking a major step forward in the dematerialisation of physical media. The environmental impact of this choice is significant: a digital ticket emits 3,000 times less CO2 than a traditional magnetic ticket. In line with this strategy, from March 2025 the magnetic ticket will be definitively discontinued, making way exclusively for digital solutions on a more sustainable and environmentally friendly “Chip on Paper” medium.
